Welcome back Sophie
We are happy to welcome Sophie Claire Bastrup Woodruff back to TNU, currently as a Research Assistant and from January as a PhD Student.
Sophie first joined TNU in 2024 as a research assistant on a three-month research stipend in Associate Professor Betina Elfving’s lab, shortly after returning from a research stay in New Orleans. Two years later, she has now returned to Betina’s lab as a research assistant through the Neuroscience Academy Denmark programme, supported by a PhD Fellowship funded by the Lundbeck Foundation. She will officially begin her PhD in January 2027.
Throughout her studies, Sophie’s research interests have centered on depression and the therapeutic potential of serotonergic psychedelics for its treatment. In recent years, she has also developed a strong interest in sex differences in depression and the role of sex hormones in driving these differences.
Her upcoming PhD project will investigate sex differences in brain tissue from patients with major depressive disorder using samples from the Old Brain Collection. She will also study miRNA biomarkers of postpartum depression in blood samples, in collaboration with Vibe Frøkjær.
