Rodrigo Grassi-Oliveira receives Ascending Investigator Grant 2023

The Lundbeck Foundation just selected 13 experienced research talents who make up the Lundbeck Foundation's Ascending Investigators 2023. One of them is Rodrigo Grassi-Oliveira from TNU.

Rodrigo Grassi-Oliveira has been granted 5.3 million DKK by the Lundbeck Foundation for the research project titled "Neuroepigenomics of THC and CBD Exposure during Pregnancy in the Developing Brain."

The study focuses on investigating the impacts of cannabis compounds THC and CBD on prenatal brain development.

Given the increasing prevalence of cannabis use, understanding how these compounds, capable of traversing the placenta, affect brain development is crucial.

The project aims to identify potential modifications in brain cell DNA and assess whether these changes might influence cognitive abilities in offspring later in life.

Using translational models, the project will examine the long-term neurocognitive epigenetic consequences, with human-like cerebral organoids mimicking early brain development under exposure to these compounds.
